Shao Dow is an award-winning rapper, manga author, and occasional ninja.
After studying Shaolin Kung Fu with monks while living in China, Shao Dow used the tenacity and determination he learned from his martial arts training to independently build his music career.
It’s no wonder Shao won the AIM (Independent Music Awards) award for Hardest Working Artist—in addition to his regular music releases, he has published a series of manga books through his own company, DiY Gang Entertainment.
The London-born artist has also appeared on ITV’s Ninja Warrior UK and was invited by Parliament to speak on behalf of grassroots music venues across the country. He was nominated for “Best Live Performer” at the 2022 AIM Independent Music Awards.
Known for rapping in both English and Japanese, Shao is difficult to define as a typical artist. He constantly blurs the lines between anime, gaming, martial arts, and his own music, and has worked with icons such as Sean Schemmel (the voice of Goku – Dragon Ball Z) and featured on Tech N9ne’s debut single from the album “Asin9ne.”
In addition to his regular releases, Shao Dow is working on the soundtrack for the animated series ∫ with Mashed and Channel 4 – the third episode reached over 1 million views on YouTube in 10 days. He created the music for an animation inspired by “God of War” (over 7 million views) which became the soundtrack for an official video celebrating the anniversary of the game’s sequel by Sony Santa Monica and PlayStation, and his music was used during the documentary “All or Nothing: Arsenal” about Arsenal FC by Amazon Prime Video.
Most recently, Shao Dow wrote a custom track for Fortnite’s “Mega City” season update. “Thunder Roll” was used in the official trailer and is one of the main themes of the game’s lobby and an emote.
When it comes to performing live, Shao puts on an unforgettable stage show. Blending skillful lyricism, infectious beats, and Kung Fu, he creates an unparalleled live experience.
He has opened for Tech N9ne, R.A The Rugged Man, KRS-One, Stormzy, 6LACK, Skepta, and more, performed at the Reading and Leeds festivals, and toured the UK, Europe, the US, and Asia.
A truly unique Fire in the Booth with Charlie Sloth is the crown jewel of a multitude of radio shows, including Radio 1, 1xtra, Capital Xtra, and BBC 6 Music.
In 2024, Shao Dow will embark on the Genki Dama Tour, his first tour in Japan. His worldwide fan base helped him raise over £12,000 in a 30-day crowdfunding campaign to help make the tour possible.
And, of course, he’ll be at Iberanime on Saturday, May 11, for a memorable concert you won’t want to miss.
