Jules Spaniard, stage name of Júlio Espadanal Ramos, is a Portuguese multidisciplinary artist passionate about comics, animation, and visual effects. Born in Almeirim, Jules has built a solid career in the world of digital art, working as a 3D/2D animator, FX artist, and illustrator.

His passion for manga and medieval fantasy led him to create “Arcadian Devils,” a work inspired by classics such as Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball and Kentaro Miura’s Berserk. The project, developed with dedication and completely independently, mixes intense action, a detailed universe, and a captivating artistic style.

With a degree in Fine Arts – Painting from ESAD in Caldas da Rainha, Jules furthered his knowledge with a postgraduate degree in Multimedia Art at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Lisbon. In 2008, he joined CITI – Center for Research in Interactive Technologies at Universidade Nova de Lisboa, participating in various interactive projects and illustrations for public and private institutions.

In 2022, he founded Spaniard Animation Studios, where he develops animations and visual effects for different productions. His work includes animations such as “The Adventures of Alex,” “Passadeira do Bicho,” “Paragem de Animais,” “Rina does Life,” and “Gangue das Velhas de Benfica.” He also contributed to the visual effects for the film “O Velho e a Espada” by Fábio Powers.

In 2024, Jules released the first volume of Arcadian Devils, reviving a short story written in 2001 and giving it new life in manga format. The work promises to win over fans of fantasy, action, and adventure, transporting them to an epic universe full of twists and turns.

At Iberanime Santarém 2025, Jules Spaniard will be present at the Portuguese manga round table, where he will talk about his experience, inspirations, and challenges in creating Arcadian Devils. His work will also be featured in the Drawing Zone, in an exclusive exhibition for visitors to the event.
